The Swedish spoken in Finland (the official standard Swedish) is an older form of Swedish that in many ways sounds quite similar to the language spoken in Sweden a 100 years ago. It also has dialectal influences, especially in the rural parts of the Swedish speaking areas in Finland. In these areas, the language sounds a lot like e.g. in northern Sweden. Some extreme dialectal variants sound almost like the old Swedish spoken in Dalecarlia. It should be noted that old Swedish has traces of the "emphasis" (compare to Icelandic) and this has been also partly inherited in the rural dialectal variants. Actually what is inherited is not "emphasis", it is a question of short and long vowels and combination of short+short, which doesn't exist any more in modern Swedish spoken in Sweden. But you are right that the "language melody" of Swedish speaking Finns living in mostly Finnish speaking areas, is increasingly becoming more like Finnish (and it sounds stupid).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3017362424972208330.post-81237400321078165172012-08-07T17:22:59.323+03:002012-08-07T17:22:59.323+03:00Jolla can also be a reference to the burning platf...Jolla can also be a reference to the burning platform quote from Stephen Elop

Also its pronounced more like iolla, yolla (in finnish), in english jolla like in jeans is apparently fine too.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3017362424972208330.post-671003530612178922012-08-06T20:04:11.553+03:002012-08-06T20:04:11.553+03:00First anonymous, thanks for the feedback! Can't find any confirmed dates for when Elop technically began at Nokia, but he took over the company after the Windows exclusivity deal was agreed upon (it does indeed seem unclear whether it was signed or not) presumably to make collaboration with Microsoft easier. Updated the text to correct this.

Second anonymous, thanks also! "maemo.org" and "MeeGo" now corrected (sorry about that, the Finnish mainstream media refers to it as "Meego" and after a while you stop just noticing any problem).

About the placement of the Jolla thread on TMO, it is of course difficult when discussing upcoming products. Some people might think Jolla would be discussed in "MeeGo" as it is making devices exclusively on that platform, just wanted to make sure new visitors found the appropriate threads. :)Following Jollahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04817988442652438948noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3017362424972208330.post-11221774355317057982012-08-06T16:30:48.027+03:002012-08-06T16:30:48.027+03:00Other corrections:

It's nothing to do with Nokia's sponsorship of the site but entirely to do with the community-owned structure having nowhere better for the discussions at the moment (Also, technically, it's "Maemo" and "maemo.org". The deal between MS and Nokia was not final then, still being negotiated according to public sources (very odd for me, but so it was said).
